With many airlines charging by the suitcase, and expensive fees for overweight suitcases, the last thing you want to do is carry more luggage than necessary. The problem, however, is how to fit everything you need in one suitcase. This is a problem easily corrected by utilizing a few simple packing tips. These three quick tips will help you to pack your suitcase more efficiently.
How to Pack Efficiently
- Contrary to popular belief, you should never pack folded clothes in your suitcase. Folded clothes take up a lot of room and tend to wrinkle easily. Instead of folding your clothes the next time you pack a suitcase, try rolling them instead. Rolling each piece of clothing will give you a lot more space and help to keep your clothes wrinkle free.
- Use every bit of spare space available. While it’s a great idea to wrap belts and phone chargers around the inside of your suitcase, there is one space you’re likely not utilizing- the inside of your shoes. Use this empty space for small items such as undergarments, socks, jewelry, and toiletries. Shoes can take up a large amount of space in your suitcase. By utilizing them as a storage space, you can reclaim some of that lost space in your suitcase.
- Remember, you don’t have to take everything. In a perfect world, you could pack everything you might ever need in your suitcase. The reality, however, is that this simply isn’t feasible. Aside from overloading your suitcase, you’re going to pay a small fortune in luggage fees. Here are a few items you can leave at home:
- Hair dryer- most hotels provide these.
- Actual books- download the Kindle or Google Play versions instead.
- Drugstore items- buy items like razors and over-the-counter medications when you arrive.
- Full size bottles of anything- by trial sizes of shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and toothpaste. Use small containers to pack just enough makeup for your trip.
Following these packing tips will lighten the weight of your suitcase immensely. In addition to paying less for your luggage, you’ll have enough room in your suitcase to bring home some souvenirs.
