Flying for Business? 3 Tips for A Better Flight

meeting

Any frequent business traveler knows that earning frequent flyer miles and hotel rewards are key to qualifying for free perks and upgrades. However, these are not the only tips that will make your trip easier. Use these three tips for a better flight every time you fly.

Book a Non-Stop Flight

You might think booking a direct flight is your best option. Unfortunately, a direct flight will not necessarily take you directly to your final destination. A direct flight can, and usually does, make stops.

However, instead of getting off the plane to change flights, you simply sit on the plane, waiting. This is a huge waste of time. Book a non-stop flight instead. A non-stop flight has no stops. You will arrive at your destination much faster.

Apply for Global Entry

The Global Entry program essentially allows you expedited access through customs upon arrival back into the U.S. Also known as the Trusted Traveler program, Global Entry allows you to skip the normal customs lines.

Instead, you will visit the Global Entry kiosk, where your fingerprints, face, and passport will be scanned. These scans are used as biometric identification. Your flight details will then appear on a screen and you will answer questions, such as if you have any items to declare. A piece of paper will then be printed.

If you do not have anything to declare, you simply give the printed paper to the nearest customs officer and you are on your way to baggage claim. It is said that the entire process only takes about three minutes.

However, if you have something to declare (your paper will have an O), or an X appears on your printed paper, you must see the nearest customs officer.

Applying for the Global Entry program does require filling out a lengthy application as well as a background check. Additionally, there is a fee of approximately $100. Approval is not immediate, so be sure to apply as soon as possible.

If you plan to travel to a certain country for business often, it is worthwhile to apply for that country’s version of Global Entry. Korea, Panama, the UK, and the Netherlands all have their own versions of this program.

Order Special In-Flight Meals

Meal service on an international flight is typically not served right away. However, if you want to eat as soon as possible so you can sleep, it is wise to order a special meal.

Special meals such as vegetarian, vegan, or kosher are served before the normal meal selections. Ordering a special meal will ensure that you are served first, allowing you to rest and relax while everyone else is still waiting for their food.
