For travelers on a limited budget, the idea of a staycation (a vacation in which you stay home), can be very tempting. Although it is true that your expenses are far less than if you had gone on a real vacation, there are several reasons why you should avoid a staycation. Here are three.

No one Thinks You Are On Vacation

The first problem with a staycation is that people do not really believe you are on vacation. Sure, you might be taking time off from work, but you are still at home. Therefore, you can expect friends and family to drop by unannounced or ask for favors while you are at home. You can also expect them to try to schedule time with you.

Do you really want to be bothered on your vacation? Probably not. However, even if you make it known that your staycation is a vacation, it is still bound to happen.

Same Old Sights

The second problem with a staycation is that you are only visiting local sights. How many times have you already been to the zoo, museum, park, etc? How many times can you eat at restaurants you have already tried?

This certainly is a boring way to spend your precious vacation hours. The problem with staying local is that you have already seen and done most of the fun things in your area. It is far more exciting to leave home and explore new places.

You Never Really Disconnect

The whole point of a vacation is to relax, unwind, and leave your every day stresses behind. You cannot do this while vacationing at home. Your bills are going to come in the mail every day. You will feel it necessary to continue to do household chores like cleaning, laundry, and yard work. What kind of vacation is that?

By leaving home, you leave all of those worries behind, if only for a little while. Disconnecting from every day stress is good for you. In fact, studies show that vacations reduce stress, are good for your heart, improve productivity, and help you sleep better.
