Solo Traveler: Tips for Less Lonely Travel

You want to see the world. Trouble is, you have no one to see it with you. Traveling alone can be lonely, but it does not have to be. Use these tips the next time you travel, and leave boredom and loneliness behind.

Select Accommodations Carefully

When choosing your accommodations, you need to consider more than price and location. You also need to consider the opportunities for interacting with fellow travelers. While a hotel might seem like an ideal place to stay, you will not have many opportunities to interact with fellow guests.

Consider booking accommodations where travelers mingle frequently. This can include:

  • a bed and breakfast
  • homestay
  • hostel
  • small inn

Places such as these will help you meet and converse with fellow travelers. You might even make some new friends.

Never Dine Alone

When it is time to eat your meals, never sit at a table alone. Not only does this make you seem unapproachable, but it will also limit your chances to mingle with other people. Choose a seat at the bar instead, and dine at places where many people come to hang out. Bars, pubs, and trendy restaurants with casual lounges are all great choices.

Consider Booking a Tour or Cruise

To increase your opportunities for meeting other travelers and striking up new friendships and conversations, consider booking a tour or cruise for your next travel excursion.  Tours and cruises have many opportunities for mingling during travel such as planned activities, sightseeing, dinners, and entertainment.

All of these suggestions can make traveling alone a lot more fun. You will meet new people, see new sights, and never be lonely on your solo travels.
