There has been a lot of talk about the Trump administration’s laptop ban. As of right now, laptops are banned on flights from 10 airports in the Middle East and Africa. The same ban is also in place in the U.K. As talk of expanding the U.S. ban to include flights from Europe heats up, here is what need to know about this ban.
What is Banned?
Laptops, tablets, and large electronic devices are all included in the ban. These devices cannot be carried into the cabin during a flight. They must be checked with the checked luggage. In fact, any device that is bigger than a smartphone must be checked.
Why is This Ban in Place?
The electronics ban was enacted due to intelligence gathering that suggests terrorists may try to hide explosives inside the devices. In an effort to keep passengers safe, the ban was enacted.
Who is Affected?
As previously mentioned, the U.S. and U.K. bans currently prohibit large devices on flights from several Middle East airports and Africa. No one, no matter where his or her home country may be, can carry devices onto planes from these locations.
Working Around the Ban
Because large devices, often used for working while in flight, or for entertainment purposes, are banned, and the U.S. may expand the current ban to include flights from Europe, it is necessary to find a way to work around the ban while not breaking the law.
